Description:Oxbow Academy is an unparalleled residential treatment center specializing in the treatment of teenage boys struggling with sexual behavioral problems.
Oxbow students have been involved in sexual misconduct that may include inappropriately touching neighbors or family members, excessive use of pornography, or fetishes involving women’s underwear or animals.
Many of these boys are socially awkward, fragile, quirky type boys. They have generally entered other treatment programs with different behavioral issues identified as their core problem. These issues often include depression/anxiety, self-abuse, or other family concerns.

In a traditional therapy setting, these students will make only minimal therapeutic progress. They seldom, if ever, divulge their sexual misconduct. If that disclosure does take place, program therapists and administrators struggle with legal and ethical treatment dilemmas. Fellow students often fear and ostracize these boys.
Oxbow Academy offers a specialized therapeutic environment that focuses specifically on this type of student. We understand that sexual issues do not simply resolve themselves. One disclosed incident is typically an indication of many more activities which have not been acknowledged

Oxbow uses a holistic approach which includes therapeutic, academic and experiential activities. Accountability is a critical aspect of treatment. We can assist families in navigating any mandatory reporting or legal issues that may result from their child’s behavior. When needed, we have systems in place to communicate directly with the courts.
Addressing sexual issues is an extremely sensitive matter for students and their families. Parents are concerned their son will be labeled a predator or sex offender for their inappropriate sexual behavior. Oxbow can help these boys live happy, productive lives.
Enroll Info:Our goal is to help you make a wise treatment decision for your son. The information on our website is intended to help you learn what options may be available for your family.

Our admissions director is happy to speak with you about any questions or concerns you may have. This information is available in confidence and at your convenience.

We offer open enrollment and 24-hour admissions placement in emergency situations.
The first step is to fill out the on-line enrollment form.
Student Profile:Our students are often described as socially awkward or fragile. They struggle with a variety of behavioral problems, including depression, anxiety, reactive attachment, autistic spectrum, substance abuse, ADHD, etc. What makes our program unique is that all of our students also struggle with sexual behavioral concerns.
Counseling:Oxbow Academy is not a troubled teen boot camp. We are the premier provider of residential treatment for teenage boys struggling with a variety of behavioral problems that also include sexual concerns.

Unlike other struggling teen programs, Oxbow Academy bases the student’s length of stay on therapeutic need and progress. Progress will be measured not just in therapy sessions but also in practical daily living skills, academic effort, and in social interactions with peers, staff and family members.

Within the first 30 days of admission, every student receives a complete psycho-sexual evaluation to determine the focus of treatment, therapeutic needs, approximate length of stay, and individualized treatment plans. Medication management occurs on at least a monthly basis with a licensed Psychiatrist and on-site Registered Nurse. Clinically intensive therapy is complimented with experiential therapy and psycho-educational classes on healthy relationships, anger management, moral reasoning and social skills.

The three keys to successful treatment at Oxbow Academy are honesty, commitment, and risk.

Honesty means no lies, storytelling, or half-truths. This may be one of the hardest things our students must learn in a very sort period of time. The more honest they are in the beginning of their therapy the more quickly they will progress.

Your son must become Committed! He must be willing to fully engage in the therapeutic process. This will be done by being honest with his therapist, interacting pro-socially with peers, staff and family, asking questions, and talking about difficult issues. Your son will also demonstrate his commitment by following program rules and interacting with the treatment team in a genuine and cooperative manner.

Finally, your son will be asked to Risk! This means openly sharing his personal history, thoughts and feelings, as well as reporting lapses that he has while in treatment. He keeps no secrets from therapists, staff members or his family. His willingness to risk opens the door to healing.

Our treatment approach is described in detail under the Therapy Section of our website. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about how this approach can benefit your child. Please call our admissions director for a personal consultation.

Campus:Oxbow Academy is located in rural central Utah. We are a residential treatment facility that serves up to 24 boys ages 13-17. Our facility includes dormitory, game room, kitchen and dining facilities, classrooms, and offices. The building is surrounded by a large lawn that also boasts a garden during the summer months.

Our equine center is across the valley from the main building. Here students participate in experiential therapy with specially selected horses under the direction of our equine managers and therapists. Our facilities are designed so that every experience your son has at Oxbow Academy is safe, therapeutic and educational.
