| Student Profile: | No two students are alike, but students who enter In Balance Ranch Academy are having problems with alcohol and/or drug use, are unmotivated and underachieving in school, and fail to recognize their own problems. Often, they are experiencing co-occuring disorders such as ADHD or depression. There may be conflict in the family to the point where arguments escalate to a destructive level and emotional and physical safety is jeopardized. In Balance Ranch Academy students are typically: * Creative, yet in need of inspiration and direction * Angry, critical and deny the importance of being successful * Adventurous, risk-takers who like challenges * Confused and in need of more clarity and purpose * Isolated or involved with peers who are negative influences and reject joining with positive, goal-directed peers * Interested in the outdoors, nature, and animals * Bored, unmotivated and need help to discover their passions * In need of better decision-making and problem-solving skills * Limited in setting goals, and need more purpose and meaning in their lives * Exhibiting indicators of chemical dependency * Abusing drugs and/or alcohol |
| Academics: | The In Balance Ranch Academy academic program is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Upon enrollment, our Academic Director, Lynda Hendricks, works with the student and his parents to develop a detailed, individualized educational plan. For some students this plan may include completing courses started at his home school, taking a blend of high school and college courses to best challenge his academic strengths, or may involve designing an accelerated program to help the student make-up missed credits. Our experiential learning and one-to-one tutoring model ensures success for many students who have struggled in more traditional school settings. Our courses are fully accredited; students may choose to earn a high school diploma while they are with us, or transfer their earned credits to another school to complete their educational program. |

| Campus: | The In Balance Ranch Academy is located on 200 acres near Tombstone, Arizona. The tranquil ranch setting provides the perfect, safe, drug-free environment for our students to develop emotionally, socially and academically. Modeled after an Old West town, our campus includes student cottages, administrative offices, a large dining facility with a commercial kitchen for our culinary courses, a recreation room, several barns and riding arenas, and physical education facilities. The student cottages allow us to provide a home-like environment that encourages peer interaction and the development of essential life skills. And with that Old West flavor, the In Balance Ranch provides a sense of adventure that teen boys find exciting — not your typical therapeutic setting. |
| Philosophy: | Recovery is the first step in everything we do; sobriety is the cornerstone upon which we build our lives and ultimately reach our personal potential. Recovery from chemical dependency is a “Whole Person” process that involves physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual growth and healing. Academic success is imperative for developmental growth of the adolescent and in creating resiliency against substance abuse relapse. All of our students possess the potential to excel academically, to become strong leaders, and to live healthy, productive and happy lives. Together we will find the keys to unlock each young man’s potential. The support of family members and healthy family relationships are an integral part of our program and the recovery process. The staff at In Balance Ranch Academy helps bring out each student’s talents and strengths, providing for a positive, realistic and optimistic future. Service to others is an essential component of daily life at the ranch. Our students give unselfishly to others as they realize their incredible potential to become leaders of change in their own lives and in their communities. |
