Ages:14-17
Gender:Boys Only
Description:SCA prepares boys to be capable, caring and contributing young men in their homes and communities. We do this by providing a setting that is conducive for learning and personal growth. We focus on the emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual well-being of each student through education, treatment and experiential learning.

Director Name:Boyd Hooper
Enroll Info:Sundance insists on a selective admission policy to maintain the positive environment we believe is necessary for personal growth and change. Often teens with negative behavior are unable to correct that behavior when entering residential programs that have high enrollments. Our enrollment of 16 students at any given time allows for individualized and focused treatment of a variety of problems for boys 14-17 years old.

It is our mission to assist them in continuation of their educational goals by providing an accredited and useful curriculum which enables them to continue their education and work towards successful graduation with a deep sense of accomplishment.
Activities:Culinary Arts program

Life Skills are an essential part of our program. Students engage daily in a healthy routine including school, therapy, recreation and service. Students are graded daily on compliance, attitude, hygiene, interactions, group participation, school, chores, and responsibility. Students advance through our 6-phase or level system to meet the requirements for graduation
Counseling:Our counseling programs are administered by licensed professionals and qualified staff. We provide therapeutic intervention in the following three forms: Group, Individual and Family. Our milieu includes the Why Try Model, a program that was originally developed as a one-on-one counseling tool. The WhyTry visual analogies provide a practical guide for discussing personal challenges and solutions to problems that youth face at home, at school, and with their peers. The program utilizes a strength based approach to counseling and is infused with empirically sound theories and techniques including: Reality TherapySolutions, Focused Brief Therapy, and Multiple Intelligence Theory.
Counseling at Sundance is a collaborative approach. Therapy also involves program directors, necessary staff, and parents or guardians. Our therapeutic model is also used nationally by clinical social workers, psychologists, and other mental health clinicians in both group and one-on-one settings.

Ph.D. and Masters level therapists and teachers
consulting psychiatric and medical services
Recreation therapy and high adventure opportunities
Music and Art therapy programs
Family Involvement:Students and parents complete therapy assignments before moving on to the next program phase. The positive approach to youth development is not about crisis management and not about stopping or preventing problems. However, the program is about investing wisely in our youth, increasing their exposure to positive, constructive activities, and instilling values and skills that will guide them the rest of their adult lives.
Length of Stay:9-12 month length of stay
Philosophy:Our philosophy is that as these young men are redirected and begin to practice appropriate personal and social skills, they will begin to feel of their own personal worth. As their own self confidence builds, they are ready to make giant leaps in the direction of becoming the most capable, caring and contributing young men in their families and in society.
Staff:Live. Learn. Lead. Our motto reflects our commitment to each and every student. We understand adolescence can be difficult and often painful. At Sundance Canyon we help our students identify their strengths and develop purpose in their lives as they look to the future with a strong foundation and leadership structure to guide them.
Experience and Quality. The staff at SCA is highly trained, dedicated, experienced and fully licensed or certified. Additionally, SCA has a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, as well as other medical professionals to meet the needs of our students.
People are the Difference. From the owners to direct care staff, SCA is committed to excellence and positive outcomes for both students and their families. This commitment is made possible because SCA is operated and directed by its founders. Collectively, they have served youth in need for more than 100 years.
Parent Partners. The entire treatment team meets and reviews each youth's progress every week in order to tailor treatment plans to each youth's individual needs and abilities. Since parents are required to be members of our treatment team we communicate with them through weekly conference calls and monthly reports to measure student's progress and reach treatment goals
