We employ certified teachers who are trained to handle behavioral problems, offer a varied curriculum and maintain small classes (12 or fewer boys per classroom). Boys attend school Monday through Thursday year-round. (Friday is an activity day.)
Activities:Baseball, basketball, soccer, cross country. Fishing. Camping. Hiking. Rock climbing wall. Ropes course.
Counseling:Every young man upon entry into our program is assigned a therapist. The therapist is responsible to work with the youth, track his progress, coordinate with his family, and therapeutically deal with his issues. Music therapy.
Campus:77-acre campus.Home-like atmosphere
Family Involvement:Parenting seminars are done quarterly at the Utah Boys Ranch. Parents are given ample notification and are encouraged to attend. We cover a wide variety of topics to empower our parents. We want the parents to learn what we know. We are here to be of help and we are here to support the parents. These seminars are typically all day events and most if not all of the therapy team participates.
Length of Stay:9 months to one year
Philosophy:Utah Boys Ranch recognizes the necessity of all the professional disciplines, i.e. educational, medical, clinical teams and counselors to facilitate positive change in boys. We strongly believe that long term behavioral change comes as a result of the discovery, implementation and practice of spiritual and moral values. In contrast, the absence of these values produces negative behavior. We also believe that the families of each boy need guidance and training in healthy family interaction to ensure lasting change. In essence, we combine professional therapy involving both the boy and his family together with the development of spiritual and moral values.
Financial Assistance:Financial aid is not available through the Utah Boys Ranch, with the exception of a small fund to assist families of young men whose residential stay exceeds the traditional nine months to one year. LDS Church offers support to its members for this program on occassion with bishop permission
Staff:D. Chris Buttars, Executive Director. James H. McMaster, First Executive Officer. Michael L. Ruoho, Clinical Director
Tuition/Costs:Call for current tuition
Specialties:The Utah Boys Ranch program is founded in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that the pursuit of spiritual & moral values will do more to change behavior than any thing else we can do. Utah Boys Ranch has been serving troubled youth and their families for 40 years
