| Enroll Info: | The King George School is a private, year- round therapeutic college preparatory boarding school located on 300 acres in Vermont’s pastoral Northeast Kingdom. We operate on a two-semester system with rolling admissions for teenage boys and girls, ages 13-19 (grades 9-12). Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. All applications are thoroughly reviewed by the Admissions Committee comprised of the Admissions Director, Academic Dean, Clinical Director, and Director of Student Life. |
| Student Profile: | Creative - often displaying skill or interest in the arts or another area. Our students have generally experienced difficulties in traditional public or private school environments, and are in need of a school both structured and supportive in order to resume their academic and personal success. |
| Academics: | The King George School offers a challenging college preparatory program that contains the full scope and sequence of curricula to prepare a student for admission to college. The disciplines represented in this curriculum include: Humanities (English and Social Studies), Math and Sciences, Arts, Foreign Language, and Health and Wellness. Credit for coursework is based on the Carnegie Unit formula of one credit representing the successful completion of coursework consisting of no less than 120 instructional hours. The goal of this curriculum is to enable our students to earn acceptance to college and to obtain the emotional proficiency to function as healthy, independent young adults. Learning Support The King George School supports students who have unique or alternative learning styles and attentional difficulties in the classroom. Our academic faculty assists students in developing organization, learning strategies, and other techniques that will maximize their learning potential. Our modified block schedule provides opportunities for differentiated instruction which enables us to identify areas of academic weakness so that remediation can occur prior to the rigors of college academics. Through the integration of clinical services, academic support, artistic exploration, and dynamic student life activities, students are provided a unique educational experience. Small Class Size The average teacher to student ratio in academic classes is 1:6 with no academic class exceeding 1:12. Small class sizes provide students the opportunity for individual instruction, attention, and assessment. This student-centered focus reignites their passion for learning. College Planning King George School employs a college counselor to guide students in researching potential colleges and completing college admissions applications. The counselor assists students in scheduling ACT and SAT prep courses, and schedules the students into the appropriate test dates. For families who have retained the services of an educational consultant, the college counselor works closely with them to assist the student in preparing applications and admissions essays. College Acceptance 90% of the students who apply to college while enrolled at the King George School are accepted into two or four-year colleges or universities. The College Experience King George School students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® courses, and if they have achieved their high school diploma while attending the King George School, they also have the opportunity to take classes at Lyndon State College, a member of the Vermont State College system. In addition to receiving college credit, students are introduced to the college life experience. This provides an opportunity for students to receive support and guidance as they prepare to transition to college. |
| Activities: | By learning and living in a naturally beautiful and rural setting, King George School students participate in a wide range of social and recreational activities including: hiking, soccer, yoga, rock and ice climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
