| Academics: | Students receive a curriculum manual on the first day that contains philosophy, practical skill instruction, stories, journal assignments, and history and science lessons. Adolescents are often able to receive transferable credit for completing the SUWS curriculum. |
| Activities: | Learning first aid, to basic orienteering and primitive living skills |
| Counseling: | Groups spend five days per week on the trail followed by two days of intensive therapy in campsites. While on the trail, students participate in outdoor activities and take part in daily group processing sessions, and staff / peer counseling. During intensive therapy or "layover", students participate in individual and group therapy sessions while completing program curricula and therapy assignments. |
| Campus: | Carolinas Base includes an office complex, instructor residences, training facilities, and commissary. Groups in the field remain in contact with Base personnel via phone / radio 24-hours per day, and are readily accessible in the event of an emergency |
| Family Involvement: | We recognize the importance of the family in the growth process. Our family component includes a 16 tape parenting series, weekly treatment planning sessions, and a three day parenting workshop upon program completion |
| Length of Stay: | Flexible length of stay from 4 to 7 weeks |
