| Academics: | As a college preparatory school, Fenster is dedicated to providing an academic structure that leads to success. We provide a traditional curriculum of the core subject areas needed for a successful college placement. With very small classes, teachers can easily monitor the academic performances of their students. At the end of every seven period class day, teachers are expected to identify the students who need extra help. Tutorials are then utilized for those students. The 8th period tutorials provide the student with the opportunity to work with their teachers and to get back on track. Fenster believes in academic structure, therefore, every effort is made to ensure that the students' needs are being met in the classroom. The development of each student's program is flexible, taking into account previous academic experience and post secondary plans. Course placement is subject to review of academic transcripts and relevant testing…..college concurrent classes are offered to all seniors. college placement & guidance Successful college placement is a result of careful preparation. Fenster students work closely with the college counselor. Juniors and seniors will attend college fairs and will be encouraged to find the appropriate two or four-year college or university that will realistically meet their needs. Juniors must take the SAT and ACT test in the spring. As a senior, students work with the counselor researching appropriate colleges and receiving guidance in the application process. There are also opportunities for retaking the SAT and ACT tests. The college counselor is available to work with students at all stages of the application process. As a group, the staff at Fenster is dedicated to providing our students with the skills needed to succeed in college. | Activities: | Interscholastic sports are an integral part of the student's life after the school day is done. Because of our small size, our interscholastic teams can accommodate all interested athletes. Soccer, basketball and volleyball teams compete against other small high schools in the state of Arizona. Our highly competitive teams frequently go on to regional and state tournaments. In addition to sports, there are ample opportunities to exercise and play on the Fenster campus. Recreational outlets include a swimming pool, climbing tower and ropes course, playing fields, basketball courts, spinning room, weight lifting, volleyball court, fully equipped stables and hiking in the nearby Sabino Canyon recreational area. Fenster's location in the warm dry Sonoran Desert allows for outdoor recreation every day of the year. Other extracurricular activities include Student Government and Yearbook staff. The student government's responsibilities have included coordinating a 2-week European tour during Spring Break, organizing on-campus paint ball tournaments, coordinating various ski trips, including Lake Tahoe, and raising money for an all-school prom held every year in the Spring. Fenster's proximity to the city of Tucson provides access to diverse cosmopolitan, cultural activities such as theater, symphonies, movies, museums, as well as the University of Arizona, which promotes cultural and sporting events. Other interesting excursions may include the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, Old Tucson Movie Studios, Mexico, the Grand Canyon, and trips to southern California |

| Specialties: | In 1941, exhibiting the spirit of true pioneers, George and Kitty Fenster packed up their family and belongings and trekked west from New York City. Searching for a more agreeable climate in which to live and work, the Fenster family was immediately taken by the "purple mountain majesty" of the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. The splendor of the Sonoran Desert provided the Fensters with a feeling of peace, contentment and quietude. It was in this environment that our philosophy regarding education was initiated. From the very beginning the objectives of Fenster were emphasized through schooling, careful supervision, individual attention, respect of individual differences and a "second" home atmosphere. These commons sense objectives are still very alive in The Fenster tradition. What began in a small adobe home with just eight students flourishes today with students from the throughout the United States and the world. Fenster provides a supportive learning environment for the capable underachieving student to get back on track academically. Daily monitoring of academics, attendance, homework and behavior, combined with small classrooms, provide a structure that encourages success. |
