| Description: | At Sunrise, we know that EVERY GIRL IS DIFFERENT. Because your daughter possesses a unique constellation of experiences, talents, relationships, and struggles, Sunrise offers a teen residential treatment program that is customized to meet her special needs. Sunrise works to uncover the academic, social, and emotional potential of girls who have been held back by emotional or behavioral struggles. Our staff knows that in school and treatment one size does not fit all, so we meet your daughter right where she is and design a program that changes with her as she grows confident, secure, and healthy during treatment. All aspects of our program are designed to form a healing milieu that combines the warmth of a home, the safety and clinical expertise of a residential treatment program, and the community access of a transition program. As a result, many students who would otherwise need two or three programs can move through their entire healing process-from treatment to their transition back home or off to college-all at Sunrise, quickly, effectively, and affordably. |

| Enroll Info: | Finding the right kind of help for your troubled teenage daughter is the first step to getting her back on a successful and meaningful path in life. The typical length of enrollment for our students is 6 to 9 months. Parents understand that in order to help achieve lasting change, their teen daughter must complete their full program to reach their full potential. Our teen girl therapy maximizes the clinical, academic and residential experience for our students, helping lead them to success and genuine change. |
| Student Profile: | Sunrise works with teen girls between the ages of 13 and 17 who are struggling with a range of emotional and behavioral issues. We work to uncover and tap the great potential these teen girls possess; potential that may be masked by internal struggles and emotional pain. By combining the best features of a boarding school, a treatment facility, and a transition program, we are able to wrap around these girls with care, giving the support and tools necessary to thrive. Our licensed therapists and special education certified teachers are equipped to help girls struggling with a number of issues, including, but not limited to: •Defiance •Substance abuse •Depression •Anxiety •School avoidance •Learning disabilities •Low self-esteem •ADD and ADHD •Sexual promiscuity •Eating disorders What's more, Sunrise is designed to move your daughter through a complete therapeutic process-from assessment, through treatment, to the transition back home. |
| Academics: | Customized Academics Because EVERY GIRL IS DIFFERENT, with her own constellation of learning styles, passions, aptitudes, abilities, and challenges, we offer customized instruction that accounts for each girl's needs. Our curriculum standard for every girl is based on that of her home state so that she can progress without a hitch through the appropriate coursework toward graduation in her state. Our highly trained teachers are able to meet the needs of academic high achievers as well as students whose abilities are challenged by learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, NLD, dyslexia, and processing difficulties. Rather than focusing on labels, our expert teachers focus on the girl as an intellectual and emotional whole, working from a broader understanding that addresses weaknesses without fixating on them, and puts the emphasis on maximizing strengths. We organize our curriculum for each student using texts, content standards, and book lists approved by her home state. The extra work this individualized approach makes for our teachers is well worth it in terms of academic outcomes. Almost 100% of our students go back to high school or directly on to college-even those who had not previously planned to do so. The individualized work is complemented by small-group classroom instruction that covers those subject-matter fundamentals common to all states. This gives students a normalized classroom experience in addition to their customized program. Our teacher student ratio during instructional time ranges from 1:1 to 1:10, not including additional support staff. Our focus for all students is on preparing them for the intellectual demands of college and real life. We know that this requires compassion for and understanding of their emotional process in treatment. Our teaching is informed by an intimate knowledge of each girl's therapeutic and life skills process, as well as by an understanding of her clinical profile, medication regiment, and academic profile. At the same time, we balance our compassion with a commitment to challenge each girl to an appropriately high standard. Our girls appreciate the sense of normalcy and confidence it gives them to be challenged to a high standard, and the result is a desire to meet that standard. Communication Academic success requires a team approach built on robust communication between all stakeholders-student, staff, parents, and home school. In addition to phone calls and emails as needed, we provide our parents with monthly progress reports that reflect academic progress. To facilitate internal communication among school staff, the Academic Director participates in the weekly Treatment Team Staffing, to stay on course with any modifications a student may need due to behavioral, emotional, or medical changes. We also communicate with the school of origin at the beginning and toward the end of a student's stay at Sunrise to ensure that our classes and curriculum meet graduation requirements. It is critical to keep students themselves apprised of their progress in order to keep them motivated and on track; the individualized approach we take means that our girls have constant feedback. Finally, our close knit staff of teachers communicates constantly about learning goals, teaching strategies, and student progress. Sunrise believes that coupling nature with a constructive environment aids emotional healing. |
| Counseling: | Treatment Philosophy The best treatment requires not only current, research-based therapies, but an informed vision for each unique teen girl. Our clinicians' first job, then, is to get to know your daughter from a number of perspectives, including clinical profile, family system, and learning profile. Tying all of this together, of course, requires an understanding of the girl as a person-her dreams, fears, strengths, and hurts; what makes her mad and what makes her laugh. Without the benefit of a trusting, authentic relationship, even the most sophisticated treatment modalities are of little use. With the benefit of a trusting relationship, however, clinically sophisticated therapies can be customized to meet the individual's needs and can change her life! In addition to creating a therapeutic milieu that promotes growth in the course of daily life, we also provide scheduled therapy that includes: Weekly individual therapy sessions Weekly family therapy sessions Weekly equine assisted therapy Daily group therapy Targeted psychotherapy groups focusing on specific issues, such as adoption, trauma, and abuse Our relational approach is married with research-based therapies that, together, form the foundation for healing and success. Our licensed therapists are experienced in applying a number of modalities that they use in combination according to your daughter's specific needs; these modalities include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) SMART Recovery Specialty and Psycho-educational groups, e.g. Relationship Building Group Equine Therapy Recreational Therapy Family Systems Therapy Locus of Control |
| Campus: | Situated in Hurrricane Utah at the base of Zion's park. The program has 32 beds and provides for educational needs on site. The girls have a family style setting, with dorm style sleeping arrangements. There is a fenced green lawn area, recreation facitities and stables on campus. |
| Family Involvement: | During the first week, there are no phone privileges outside of family therapy. Your daughter will be able to communicate more with her family as she progresses. A minimum of one phone call per week to parents is allowed for each student. We hope you will plan to visit your daughter as often as you can. We encourage face-to-face family therapy, and we require at least 1- Sunrise visit and 1-participation in a family weekend experience before discharge. |
| Length of Stay: | Many of our students complete their treatment in as little as 6 months. Our average length of stay is approximately 9 months. We try to focus more on positive outcomes and less on time frames, while still remaining sensitive to the financial and emotional needs of the family. |
| Philosophy: | We believe that every young woman has the right to succeed. We understand that behaviors, attitudes and habits can affect the pathway to success |
| Financial Assistance: | Some insurance plans have a "Residential Treatment" benefit, and in some cases, this may help defray your costs. Our rate is competitive and educational loans are available upon request. For specific questions about costs, call Dawn Reyos 435-669-3860 or email Dawn@sunriseacademyrtc.com. |
