| Director Name: | Linda Clefisch, LCSW |
| Enroll Info: | No geographic limitations. We do not accept delinquent children, substance abusers, fire setters or sexually predatory children. We also do not accept children with an IQ below 80, severe brain injury or who require 24 hour medical supervision. we will request that the family and child visit the Lodge. The child and his parents and/or legal guardians shall have a visit, an interview, and an evaluation at Forest Heights Lodge. We have found a pre-placement visit to the child's home to be a very useful tool. This provides an opportunity to build the foundation of a cooperative alliance and afford a more detailed understanding of the child's functioning in his environment. In the two or three days we spend living in the home, we can observe the family's interactions, experience how the child relates to his parents and siblings and interview extended family members. The insights acquired from these direct, intimate contacts give us an invaluable head start in planning for the child's treatment. During this visit, we also meet with school and medical personnel as needed, both to clarify the child's past and to begin exploring post-discharge treatment and educational resources. Professional time and travel costs for the home and school evaluation are billed separately from the Lodge's regular monthly cost of care and should be paid prior to the admission of the child. |
| Student Profile: | Emotionally disturbed. Depression, aggression, extremes of fear or obsessive behaviors and those who do not trust the care and control of others. Traumatized and unattached children. Suggested Minimum IQ: 90. |
| Academics: | Our on-grounds school is approved by the Colorado Department of Education and is a California Certified Non-public School. Our school program is year round and has an extended school year. Average class size is six students. Each child is evaluated and an individualized program is developed to meet his needs. |
| Activities: | Outdoor basketball court and large play area suitable for many sports, but we use community recreational facilities. We are one hour away from ski areas and hiking is immediately available. The Evergreen Lake is great for fishing and ice skating. |
| Counseling: | Psychotropic medications allowed only under the most limited circumstances. |
| Campus: | The boys reside in a main residence much like a ski lodge. Most boys live two to a room, although there are several rooms that are for one child. At Forest Heights Lodge, home is "the Lodge" where all 24 boys live together. The living room is open, light, rustic, focused on the big, rock fireplace. Having all the boys under one roof adds immeasurably to the sense of family. |
| Family Involvement: | We encourage regular visits and written and telephone contact between a child and his family. We believe that the parents' joy and excitement about a child's growth is a critical element to treatment. Family therapy and regular contact with a treatment coordinator is available whenever it is needed by the family. |
| Length of Stay: | 18 to 24 months |
| Philosophy: | The primary purpose of the Lodge continues to be the restoration of children to maximum functioning. Under girding this purpose is a commitment to the maintenance and strengthening of families. |
| Financial Assistance: | Depending on the coverage and managed care criteria, insurance may pay varying amounts of the costs. Some school districts have paid all or some portion of the cost. Some departments of Social Services have funded all or some portion of costs, often as a part of an adoption subsidy. We are JCAHO accredited and many of the expenses may qualify for medical deductions for income tax purposes. We will work with funding sources to meet their billing and report requirements. We do not have scholarships available. |
| Staff: | staff includes two child psychiatrists, one child psychologist, five psychiatric social workers and four teachers. There are eight child care workers, most with bachelor degrees. The average length of employment of clinical staff is 15.67 years. The average length of employment of child care and teaching staff is 5.75 years. |
| Tuition/Costs: | An all inclusive rate of $223.29 per day or $81,502.19 per year. |
