| Description: | A licensed treatment program that uses the wilderness as an alternative to traditional treatment settings, while employing traditional therapeutic methods |
| Enroll Info: | An admission to Walkabout may take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday |
| Student Profile: | A range of emotional and behavioral issues that may include Oppositional Defiance, Attention Deficit, Learning Differences, Low Self Esteem, Depression, Substance Abuse and Family Conflict. |
| Academics: | We feel it is critical for students to continue academics during treatment, rather than taking a break from school altogether. Walkabout has designed a unique academic program that helps the students continue to engage learning skills such as reading, writing, reasoning, problem solving, and collaboration. Students at Walkabout will participate in at least three, structured one-hour learning sessions each week, along with a few assignments to complete on their own |
| Counseling: | Therapeutic interventions. Ph.D. Level Therapists - -Individualized Treatment Planning -Individual Therapy Twice per Week |
| Family Involvement: | The family is extremely important to the growth process. Walkabout offers each family the skills they need to aid them in supporting their child's growth. |
| Length of Stay: | Flexible Lengths of stay |
| Philosophy: | Drawing upon an ancient culture's belief of rite-of-passage, Walkabout is designed to engage students in character development, resolve personal and family issues, and assist in aftercare planning. |
| Staff: | Staff must demonstrate competence in first aid, CPR and outdoor wilderness skills |
| Specialties: | All Clothing/Gear/Equipment Included. It is important that a student's medication be stabilized prior to admission. Walkabout is a short term intervention and does not recommend using this setting to adjust medications. If your child's medication requires blood level monitoring a baseline is required prior to admission. Only prescribed medication will be given to students, at prescribed levels. |
