MMS is a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school that operates 12 months a year. |

MMS is recognized by the West Virginia Department of Education as an Exemption K school (private school designation) and credits are accepted by all schools across the US usually without any difficulty. Miracle Meadows School is a testing site for the SAT, ACT and PSAT. Students in elementary school are taught together in one classroom by an elementary school teacher. Because many students who come to MMS are behind in school, an accredited self-paced program is available for most classes designed to allow the student to “catch-up”. | Length of Stay: | It takes years for a child to learn the behavior that is now causing a crisis in the family. That sort of behavior is not unlearned overnight. It takes most children a year to a year and a half before they are ready to go home. However, there are exceptions and some children leave sooner and some later. In order for MMS to be effective, a child should not be told a time frame for leaving. The expectation must be that the child will not leave until they are ready and this readiness is determined by the MMS staff in conjunction with the parents. |
| Philosophy: | Simply stated, our goal is to enable students to return home as quickly as possible. In order to achieve that goal, we provide a low distraction environment and focus on 4 major domains of growth: 1) the spiritual domain; 2) mental domain; 3) physical domain; and 4) social domain. Students are held accountable by staff members and other students for all of their actions in a highly supervised, structured environment. |
| Staff: | Has 28-30 staff members, many who come from all over the world. |
| Specialties: | MMS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) parochial boarding school recognized by the state of West Virginia Department of Education. MMS was started in 1988 and received non-profit status in 1990. It is an approved member of the Adventist-Layman’s Services and Industries, the official organization of Seventh-day Adventist Supporting Ministries. However, unlike other parochial boarding schools, we specialize in at-risk teenagers. While the Seventh-day Adventist Church operates a worldwide Christian education system consisting of thousands of schools, MMS is currently one of only 3 schools worldwide which enrolls secondary and elementary students who are defiant, deviant, disrespectful, failing in school, and in trouble with the law. MMS is the only SDA school that is willing to accept aggressive and violent students. Students are NOT expelled because of misbehavior. Besides regular academics, MMS students are taught social skills, respect for authority, effective work habits, communication skills, and aided in working through disruptive family issues. Hundreds of students from all over the United States and foreign countries have been helped in getting their lives back on track through the program at MMS. |
