Ages:17.5
Gender:Separate boys and girls facilities
Description:An individualized mentoring program for young adults.
Director Name:Jude Rudolph
Student Profile:As unique individuals, AIM House residents have varied backgrounds and stories. Many are bright and full of potential, but feel trapped in negative patterns that inhibit their ability to live independently and prevent them from achieving success in the present. Often, AIM residents lack awareness of how the choices they make impact their lives and those of the people closest to them. They feel life is happening to them, not due to them, and don't know where they fit in. Our goal is to help AIM residents find their unique place in the world. We create a nurturing yet demanding environment where participants can grow to understand their inner nature and come to take responsibility for their own lives. By providing clear structure, realistic expectations, and the dependable support of peers, AIM House gives individuals the opportunity to discover how capable and resourceful they truly are.
Academics:cademics
AIM House residents discover an abundance of academic opportunities in Boulder and the surrounding areas. For those pursuing post-high school education, the city is home to the University of Colorado, Front Range Community College, Naropa University, The Cooking School of the Rockies and several other respected trade schools. Young adults requiring remedial education, GED preparation or SAT review before reaching their goal of attending college also have a variety of options. In all cases, the AIM House team provides the support necessary for participants to succeed academically, providing tutoring and structured study sessions for each student according to his specific needs.

Vocational
An alternative path to success for those who are ready for a business environment is our internship program which helps AIM participants acquire the real-world experience they'll need to succeed in their field of interest. Case in point: this website is the work of an AIM resident whose goal is to learn graphic and web design. To help him reach this objective, AIM staff arranged an internship with an elite Denver Agency, where he worked on this and similarly relevant projects. Other AIM participants have successfully interned at a variety of local businesses, radio stations, theaters and hospitals, gaining invaluable experience, skills and contacts along the way.

Volunteer
Volunteering as a means of contributing to the community is an intrinsic part of the AIM House philosophy and an important component of our program. We encourage all participants to donate time to endeavors that enrich others' lives and expand their own. Individual AIM House participants have voluntarily coached youth sport teams, worked at the Boulder County Museum of Contemporary Art, and participated in Boulder County's Community Food Share program. Moreover, as a group, the AIM house staff and participants regularly help feed the homeless at Boulder County Food Share and give time toward an array of community causes deemed worthy by all involved.

Wilderness
Mountain

The majestic Rocky Mountains aren't only a beautiful backdrop for the city of Boulder. They're an unmatched setting for a wealth of outdoor activities and wilderness adventures, many of which are available through AIM House. Our wilderness program is designed to expose and engage our participants in a wide variety of outdoor experiences, including:

• Skiing
• Snowboarding
• Camping
• Hiking
• Mountain Biking
• River Rafting
• Rock Climbing
• Kayaking

Participants interested in more specialized wilderness pursuits may also partake in the training that's available through the Boulder community. In fact, a number of our residents have completed courses in avalanche survival, wilderness safety and Wilderness First Responder. Through their exposure to outdoor activities, many of our participants have been inspired to explore these interests as potential career opportunities.
Activities:Weekends afford the opportunity to explore an abundance of outdoor recreational activities in the spectacular setting of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Counseling:Group and individual therapy
Family Involvement:Family contact and maintaining a healthy relationship is a high priority for us. It is important to recognize however that gaining independence and confidence means creating healthy balance with parental and other family relationships. The first 21 days in our program is an evaluation and orientation period. During this time we limit family contact. After this time Primary Mentors advise families individually on how often and when to best contact one another. We offer family weekend experiences which are highly encouraged.

Visitation by friends and family to AIM House is welcome at appropriate times as approved by Primary Mentors. Scheduled home visits are an important part of our program and can be discussed after participants have settled into the program
Length of Stay:Average length of stay is 9 months living “in house”. Many residents stay in the Boulder area and maintain a professional relationship with our program. Length of stay and services involved herein are individualized based on our client and their families needs.
Philosophy:We strive to connect participants with their personal hopes and dreams for the future, to help them develop an inner sense of purpose, and to cultivate the awareness that they are ultimately responsible for their own lives.
Specialties:Nestled against the foothills of the awe-inspiring Colorado Rocky Mountains, Boulder is an enchanting city that offers its residents a rich blend of cultural, educational, professional and recreational opportunities
