These young boys should be basically good boys that have made poor choices. For instance some of our boys may have been involved with drugs/alcohol and have resorted to stealing in order to finance their habits. These boys would have completed a drug/alcohol rehabilitation program and are in need of a safe, understanding , and nurturing home to encourage and assist them in rebuilding self image and reinforcement of core values. |

The curriculum is individualized and competency based, allowing students to work at their own pace so that they will be able to maximize the learning process. Students are not held back by other teens in the class, lesson plans, teachers' schedules, course offerings, or class availability. Each student is assessed upon admission and then assisted in designing their specific course of study. |
| Activities: | On and off grounds activities provide a proper balance of recreation, exercise, learning, personal development and social opportunities. Initially all activities are on grounds. Over a period of time students may earn the privilege of participating in off ground activities. We offer many group activities on the ranch. We plant vegetable, herb, and flower gardens each year. We also raise and care for several farm animals, as well as pets. These activities offer a multitude of tasks providing many achievement opportunities and stage for learning and practicing important life skills like: cooperation, responsibility, tolerance and teamwork just to name a few. Individual activities are streamlined to cover a wide range of interest as it is important to the well being of your son to have many avenues for creativity so he has the opportunity to express himself in positive ways. We do arts and crafts project, activities in writing and publishing. We have 190 acres on the ranch to play on and explore but do not limit ourselves to the ranch only. We go swimming or take a trip to the Water Park, museums, roller rink, bowling alley, the movies, or take in a play once in a while. In the winter we may go skiing or snowboarding, we are only 45 miles or so from Big Mountain as well as several other Ski Resorts. Other activities include Fly-Fishing, Hiking, Rafting, Mountain Climbing, and Cross-Country Skiing. These fun filled activities are not considered privileges to be taken away; they are part of the program, to help them balance their learning activities with positive healthy recreational activities, because fun and laughter are among the greatest of healers. |
| Counseling: | Counseling: Licensed counseling and therapy is provided as needed. |
| Campus: | The ranch is located on 190 acres in beautiful Northwest Montana. Nestled in the beautiful Rocky Mountains north of the Flathead Valley, the Kootenai National Forest, and only 30 miles south of the Canadian border. It's only about an hour from Kalispell, Glacier Park, and 3 hours from Missoula. We also have a 20 acre ranch close to the Pintlar Wilderness area. This provide a natural setting in which the boys will be able to hike, float the beautiful Blue Ribbon Trout Stream of Rock Creek and fish. It is just 30 miles south of Missoula, Montana. The mountain views are spectacular and offer their own sense of comfort and peace |
| Family Involvement: | We want your son to feel supported, not forsaken by his family. Family involvement is greatly encouraged. We have no restrictions on parents calling their son or our staff. We encourage parents to visit every 3 months, so that they may see the progress their child is making. We request parents schedule their visits, to avoid any potential scheduling conflicts, as we schedule a variety of off campus activities and would not want a family to travel and not have the opportunity to see their son. Supportive letters, e-mails, and cards from families, as well as a parent approved contact list, are also encouraged. It is important to keep the lines of communication between the family and the child open. It strengthens the bonds and reinforces the fact your child was placed here to get the help he needs. Reinforcing the fact that you love him and you are doing this because you want him to be the best person he can possibly be |
| Length of Stay: | Length of Stay: The program is designed to be completed in 12 months, with 3 month evaluations and/or family visitation. However, based on the family situation and the child's ability to progress at the average rate, exceptions may be made. |
| Philosophy: | We are here to help the family, as well as the child. We are committed to the ideal that within each of us dwells a unique, loving, trustworthy, compassionate, and genuine individual. Sometimes this beautiful inner being becomes so entangled in the constant bombardment of negativity within their external environment, that their self worth deteriorates to the point that they invent and reinvent fictitious personas which they feel are more worthy of acceptance, thus quickly losing sight of their true selves. To do this they must construct an impenetrable shell; a self made prison with transparent walls. But, placing a child in a safe environment away from the negative influences and with counseling and a Positive Peer Culture, your child can feel comfortable learn how to develop behaviors that will help encourage self respect, self assuredness and the internal strengths that he needs to destroy the prison he has created for himself. Thus paving the way to rediscovery of the values and beliefs you as nurturing parents have instilled within him. These positive reinforcements will strengths his inner self allowing him the tools to reevaluate the way he view others and the way he views himself. Once your son feels confident in himself he will realize that he can choose his own destiny. He will be able to evaluate situations and make positive choice that will not be influence by negative peer pressure. |
| Staff: | Judy Braach, Program Director and Housemother. I have worked with emotionally and physically disabled children. I have been employed as a teacher, counselor, and adviser to a large variety of children within the public school system and the surrounding communities in both Montana and Alaska for 10 plus years. I have devoted my life to children in several capacities including Day Care and Church School. My home and my life have always been open to young people and their need to survive in the jungle of life. However, I feel my most important contribution to Reaching High Youth Ranch is the fact that I am a mother and a teacher who has always nurtured the believe that if I invest continuous love, respect, and positive encouragement into our youth their behaviors will eventually create a better world for everyone.
