With all of the negative influences combined with mixed signals youth are exposed to, it's clear as to why they are making poor decisions and straying from the right path. Even the best parents cannot do it alone in this day and age. The Waterman Academy was developed to provide discipline, accountability, mental and physical challenges for young men who need these influences and for those who are simply looking for an amazing adventure. The program was created for young men, although the continued success of the academy benefits all who are influenced by our graduates. |

| Academics: | Upon completion of the academy, the graduates will have the opportunity to receive certifications and/or endorsements in CPR, First Aid, Shipboard Firefighting, Seamanship, Small Boat Handling, Open Water Lifeguard, Land and Sea Navigation, SCUBA and the intense Rapture Marine Expeditions Endorsement. All of the skills taught are to ensure success for the certifications in activities such as, snorkeling, free diving, kayaking, command presence and all basic maritime and Rapture duties. The courses are taught by the Rapture crew that is comprised of United States Coast Guard Masters and Mates, Firefighters, Law Enforcement, Ocean Life Guards and Naval Reserve Special Warfare Personnel. |

| Campus: | The Waterman Academy is a 21-day program at sea for young men ages 13 to 19. The academy is held aboard the Rapture, a 145-foot ship that houses the crew and participants for the duration of the expedition. The ship travels to destinations from San Diego to Santa Cruz Island. Upon completion of the academy, the graduates will have the opportunity to receive certifications and/or endorsements in CPR, First Aid, Shipboard Firefighting, Seamanship, Small Boat Handling, Open Water Lifeguard, Land and Sea Navigation, SCUBA and the intense Rapture Marine Expeditions Endorsement. All of the skills taught are to ensure success for the certifications in activities such as, snorkeling, free diving, kayaking, command presence and all basic maritime and Rapture duties. The courses are taught by the Rapture crew that is comprised of United States Coast Guard Licensed Masters and Mates, Firefighters, Law Enforcement, Ocean Life Guards and Naval Reserve Special Warfare Personnel. We limit each academy session to 60 participants to ensure the level of attention and safety required for the successful completion of the program. | Staff: | Crew Qualifications United States Coast Guard Licensed Masters and Mates with Advanced Shipboard Fire Fighting Certification, STCW and many other endorsements. Ocean Lifeguards Emergency Medical Technicians Diver Medical Technician PADI Dive Instructors and Dive Masters Red Cross, CPR, First Aid and Waterfront Lifeguard Instructors Certified Recompression Chamber Operator Marine Biologists Certified Advanced Firefighters Law Enforcement Officers Naval Reserve Special Warfare Personnel The Waterman Academy crew and staff is highly specialized and uniquely qualified to train and educate the young men in all of the skills and course work we offer. The company was founded by Captain Scott McClung in 1990. Scott grew up in Laguna Beach, California and was always in the ocean even as a young boy. He has been in and on the water ever since. He knew that sooner or later he would own and operate a ship designed for educating kids about the ocean. For the past 15 years, Rapture Marine Expeditions and her Crew have been taking young adults out on the ocean to learn about the marine environment and all of the wonderous things within it. About five years ago, Captain Scott realized that nobody had a program that was dedicated to helping teenage boys learn the traditional waterman skills. He also realized that teenage boys needed positive role models and the guidance to teach them how to become men. His vision for the Waterman Academy had to be done right or not at all. After years of designing a program that would be outstanding for all concerned, the academy was launched. He had the ship, the knowledge, the crew and the dedication to make it work; now all he needed was the teenage boys and their families who would benefit from the program. With 15 years of experience, 20,000 nautical miles at sea and teaching 5,000-plus kids each year about the ocean certainly qualifies the Rapture and her crew as the "right one" for the job. Rapture Marine Expeditions and the Waterman Academy are very fortunate to have a dedicated crew and staff of people that truly care about what they do and the people they do it for. It is the dedication and expertise that ensure all of our participants a safe expedition at sea.
